WHAT DOES HE LOOK LIKE?

In this post, you'll learn how to use the structure 'look like', as well as how it is contrasted with other common structures with 'like'.

LOOK LIKE:

  • What does Alex look like? ➡ We use it to describe the appearance.
He is tall, dark and handsome, and he dresses well.
He's a big guy. He looks like a rugby player. (= he's simlar to..)

  • Who does Alex look like? ➡ We use it to show the similarity with another person.
He looks like his father, but in some ways he also looks like George Clooney. 


LIKE:
  • What does Alex like? ➡ In this case the verb 'like' just shows his preferences.
Alex likes football and rugby.
He likes going to matches with his friends.
He also likes Chinese food... and, of course, he likes his car.


BE* LIKE:
  • What is Alex like? ➡ To 'be like' is used in order to describe his personality.
He is nice and friendly, has a good sense of humour and is always willing to help - a great friend to have!
