HAVE YOU EVER...?

Have you ever been to England? Well, after learning with my blog you'll be able to visit the country and enjoy the experience. At least I hope so.

Now, it's time to learn how to use the structure 'have you ever...?' which means '¿has ... alguna vez?' in Spanish. It is necessary to insert 'ever' as it is clearly depicted in the picture below, together with a verb in the past participle form:

  • Regular verb: -ed.
  • Irregular verb: 3rd column.

Have a look at the answers. There are two possible ways of answering; a positive and a negative form.

  • AFFIRMATIVE: SUBJECT + HAVE/HAS + PAST PARTICIPLE.
  • NEGATIVE: SUBJECT + HAVE/HAS + NEVER + PAST PARTICIPLE.
What is more, have you noticed that with words such as 'once' and 'twice' we can mention how many times we have done something? Nevertheless, this structure is a bit irregular, have a look at the following image in order to clarify this issue:

Thus, it is possible to use 'once' and 'twice' for 'una vez' and 'dos veces' respectively; but in order to start counting up to 3 we use 'three/four/five times' and not 'thrice' or anything like that.

  • Have you ever visited London?
  • Have you ever appreciated a sunset?
  • Have you ever been a guest at a surprise party?
  • Have you ever been in a first date?
  • Have you ever been on TV?
  • Have you ever broken a bone?
  • Have you ever broken up with someone?
