HOW LONG...? FOR vs. SINCE

 How long have you been learning English? 

How would you answer the following question? I suppose that you would do it using either 'for' or 'since' Then, this is your post!


What is the difference between 'for' and 'since'? In this post you'll learn the difference between these two prepositions. Have a look at the following image and try to understand the difference between these two words.


As depicted above, 'for' is used with periods of time: 3 years, 4 weeks, 6 hours... On the contrary, 'since' is used with specific moments in time; I was young, 1998, 6 o'clock...

Indeed, in order to understand this issue better, I recommend you to read in detail the following picture together with the explanation of the present perfect simple within this same blog. Remember that these two prepositions are mainly used with the present perfect simple and continuous tense.
